Trekverse

The Trekverse as I call it centers around Star Trek or at least that's where I started. This universe is often put into the Tommy Westphall Universe but that relies heavily on brand connections which I tend to avoid. These brands are often just props shows and movies use or in the case of businesses they use the same fictitious businesses to avoid naming specific banks or airlines for legal reasons.

Onto the Trekverse.

  • Star Trek, both the original series and Next Generation featured many references to The Forbidden Planet. Altair IV from that movie gets brought up a lot
  • Star Trek has had several spin-offs including: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Theres also animated series but their canonicity is questionable.
  • In Red Dwarf we see a Klingon ship in the episode Psirens.

Now in the same episode we also see a ship from Space:1999 and a Weyland-Yutani ship from Aliens. Now...im going to dismiss those two, the klingon ship i can sort of fit that in but the others not so much Space: 1999 the moon goes out of orbit, that doesnt really fit and unlike a dreamworld which the Trekverse isnt there has to be at least somewhat cohesive structure. As for Weyland-Yutani, its just such a go to reference that its hard to really say what is and isnt a link with that, it would need more for me consider it a link. Same reason why im not including the Slusho reference from the 2009 Star Trek film. The Slushoverse warrants its own post in the future.

  • Dr. Jackson Roykirk who made the space probe that appeared in the Star Trek episode "The Changeling" appears in an episode of Team Knight Rider
  • Team Knight Rider is a follow up to Knight Rider.
  • Knight Rider had some spin-offs including Code of Vengeance, the tv movie Knight Rider 2000, the film Knight Rider from 2008 and subsequent tv series Knight Rider (2008)
  • In Herbie: Fully Loaded a news story reports that Herbie hangs out with K.I.T.T from Knight Rider. The Herbie series of films has 6 films. The Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, Herbie Goes Bananas, Disney's The Love Bug and of course Herbie: Fully Loaded
  • In the 2008 film Knight Rider, the characters go to the Montecito Resort and Casino from Las Vegas. While this is a brand link i think its substantial enough given the characters actually go to it, its a location and its not a reference that is a go-to like Weyland-Yutani or Morley.
  • The Montecito Resort and Casino shows up also in Passions, Medium and Heroes.
  • Las Vegas had a crossover with Crossing Jordan
  • The Dunder-Mufflin company from The Office (US) is mentioned in an episode of Las Vegas.
  • The Office (US) had an appearance of David Brent from the The Office (UK) the original British version of the Office.
  • David Brent: Life on the Road was a spin-off film of the The Office (UK)
  • Sabre Printers from The Office appears in Parks & Recreation, Most likely intentional as the shows were both created by Micheal Schur.
  • The Swanson Safe Company appears in The Good Place and Rutherford Falls, also created by Micheal Schur so im fairly certain that was intentional link to Parks & Rec. Theres also other brand links.
  • Dr.Bombay from Bewitched was a character in Passions
  • Tabitha Lennox mentions having an affair with Barnabas Collins from Dark Shadows
  • Phoebe Figally from the Nanny and the Professor is a character in Passions.
  •  Uncle Dale from the 12 Monkeys tv series appears in both Star Trek: Picard and MacGyver (2016).
  • MacGyver (2016) crosses over with the reboot of Hawaii Five-0.
  • The Hawaii Five-0 (2010) crossed over with NCIS: Los Angeles and Magnum P.I (2018)
  • NCIS: Los Angeles crossed over with Scorpion
  • NCIS: Los Angeles is a spin-off of NCIS
  • NCIS spun off NCIS:  New Orleans and NCIS: Hawai'i
  • NCIS is a spin-off of JAG
  • Edward Sheffield from First Monday joined the series JAG
  • Belgravia, a fictional country which appears in an episode of NCIS is also seen as the setting of The Princess Switch, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star as well as A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. Belgravian royalty appear in the 1931 musical Honeymoon Lane. Belgravia originates from the 1926 film Young April
The Trekverse as outlined here includes 37 TV shows and 16 movies ranging from 1926 all the way to shows still ongoing.

Metal Gearverse

So while I'm working on some larger charts, here's a smaller one. Metal Gear Solid, the very influential and beloved series from Konami is the center of today's chart. Let's head into it.

  • Paintings of God from Silent Hill can be seen Metal Gear Solid 3.
  • Metal Gear named Mk. II appears in Snatcher, as well as Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Solid Snake makes appears as a merchant npc in Boktai 2. Master Otenko from Boktai appears in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • A stage in Contra III: The Alien Wars is set in Neo Kobe, the setting of Snatcher
  • Neo Kobe 2045 Speed King is a racing game set in Neo Kobe
  • Random and Napoleon from Snatcher appear in Policenauts.
  • Boktai and Megaman Battle Network have had multiple crossovers throughout the series. (More info here)
  • Megaman Star Force is later in the same continuity as Mega Man Battle Network.
  • The main Mega Man series is an alternate timeline.
  • Snake appears in Super Smash Bros Ultimate which is hinted at being a sort of multiversal nexuspoint in the World of Light story mode.
  • Snake appears in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, which is hinted as being a canon experience for the characters in God of War Ragnarok.

A lot of stuff online sets Ape Escape, Splinter Cell and Syphon Filter in the same universe because of the Snake vs Monkey mode, but thats a thing thats unlocked later and is like a minigame, i dont consider it canon. Maybe i'll come around on that but I don't think it is.

A nice concise universe, altho given the nature of Metal Gear how much of this is canon is questionable given how the series is overly meta and wonky with unreliable narrators and twists. Obviously it can branch further if we look at the multiverse side of it but that's a tale for a different post.

RIP Richard Belzer

Some of you may have read my detail breakdown of the Tommy Westphall universe. John Munch from Law & Order really was the glue that held that universe together, the linchpin so to speak. Richard Belzer, the actor who portrayed him in many shows has died today. Hope he rests in peace knowing he brought enjoyment to millions of people.
