RE: Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts - The Doomverse Revised

I just finished watching a theory by beloved theorist MatPat called Game Theory: The Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts Crossover | How Doom Unites All Games! which is a fine enough video which you can find here. I did enjoy the video as his videos are entertaining but he does make a few leeps and go fast and loose with the words "canon"

So I thought I'd go over and come up with my own theory. He starts with the connection that William J Blazkowicz from Wolfenstein is the grandfather of Commaned Keen a.k.a William Joseph Blazkowicz II who is the father of Doomguy B.J. Blazkowicz III and that's all established via Doom RPG and this tweet by one of the original creators.

We can add Quake in there due to the rabbit connection in Quake Champions which they also point out. The character in Quake Champions is clearly the same Doomguy. Altho Quake seems to take place outside of traditional universes so might even be just a verse in and of itself.

So far the doomverse is

Doomverse A
Wolfenstein
Commander Keen
Doom

Quakeverse
Quake

Here's where we hit a bit of a snag. He uses Tony Hawk Pro Skater as canon evidence for the Doomverse to link to things like the MCU and so forth but like given that it was a PC exclusive easter egg character I don't think that's canon.

However, one thing that could be considered canon would be the dead Doomguy in Duke Nukem 3D

Same death pose, same outfit, hellish iconagrophy, that's our guy
However this causes a bit of an issue, Duke Nukem takes place in the early 21st Century and Doom starts off in  2019, its a bit close, but I don't know how close but  the fact that he's dead here but alive in Doom 2016 suggests to me that Duke Nukem takes place in an alternate earth where Doomguy dies.

And that's really as far as I can reach to be quite honest. Like yeah Doomguy has been referenced a lot and even makes cameos in games but none of them seem like they were intentionally put there or even if they do like Duke Nukem in Blood it doesnt add up timeline wise and even if we consider multiple timelines I just simply can't stretch it the way MatPat did.

Again, I loved his video, I just think a true shared universe has to have some logic and consistency and guest fitghers and easter eggs and cameos are not the best way to determine a coherrent shared universe.

So, right now we have

Doomverse A
Wolfenstein
Commander Keen
Doom

Doomverse B
Wolfenstein
Commander Keen
Doom
Duke Nukem

Quakeverse
Quake

Thanks for reading!
